Bees are responsible for pollinating roughly one third of everything we eat, which alone makes them very important for ecosystems across the planet. We need bees to pollinate about 85% of all the crops that we grow (which is around 400 different types of plants) – so fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc.
The plants they pollinate also provide food for birds and small mammals in the form of seeds, fruits and berries, so there are other animal groups that rely on them too.
So yes, I would argue that bees are really very important – without them, we would struggle.
Bees are pollinators of a lot of plants, there are lots of different bees and some flowers are adapted to be pollinated by different insects. I have a personal interest as I keep about ten hives of bees. It is reckoned that there would be a huge shortage of almonds if there were not enough bees to pollinate them in California, where a lot are grown
