      The temporal lobes – these are on either side of the head, above the ears. They are also related to smell, taste and short-term memory.

      Some of the scientists in my department study hearing loss, and there are really tiny hairs inside the cochlear connected to cells, that convert the vibration of the air into impulses that can be transferred to the parts of the brain that understand and translate into noise.
      By identifying these hair cells (that degrade with age) and trying to replicate their growth in the lab, we can hopefully reverse hearing loss.
