• Question: Have you ever been in an earthquake to study one?

      Nope – I’ve never actually felt an earthquake myself (although I’ve slept through a couple…). Most of the work I do involves data which we collect from across the whole world, and, for some data, from space. Occasionally after particularly important/damaging/interesting earthquakes, we go out to where the earthquake has happened, look at the area, and deploy instruments on the ground, and sometimes scientists get caught up in the aftershocks, but this hasn’t happened to me.
