I think all jobs come with some level of pressure. In my line of work, there are always deadlines to meet, although they are typically very long-term deadlines. We also have to often give presentations on our work, which can be stressful sometimes. There is also a certain amount of pressure that comes with doing research – you’re always (a) trying to come up with something new and clever, and (b) trying to be right! That is not always easy to do

Research science is also famous for being based around short-term contracts (especially at a junior level), when you have a job for 1-2 years, and then have to find a new job, or new funding – and that can be very high-pressure.

I agree with Tim – I think all jobs definitely come with pressure. The trick is knowing how to deal with it, or even to predict it. If you manage your time and plan your work out, you can prevent it from getting on top of you and affecting your work.

Always, but the truth is we put ourselves under pressure to do things. An important lesson is knowing when to just stop, slow down and think, before racing off to do something which is not actually needed
