Good question. At school I really liked physics and bits of maths that explain physics. And then, during my A levels, I was lucky enough to be able to try out geology as a subject, and liked it. Geophysics and earthquake in particular then we the perfect mix of the two, and that has been the line I’ve followed.

But I guess, taking a step back, I like the outdoors, mountains, hills, etc, and if you want to understand how those have formed it leads you naturally to the process of plate tectonics, and the fundamental observable process that results from tectonics is the occurrence of earthquakes.
