      It was names the Joule in honour of an English physicist, James Prescott Joule.

      Scientists agree to use a common type of measurement so they can easily convert measurements, do calculations. We happen to have settled on this unit, so it has a fixed number and value. I have just given my colleague a massive spreadsheet with energy calculations, in Joules so he can measure the heat from his reactions
